The Morning

Friday. And so, of course, I watched Elementary last night. Lights out at eleven, awakening two minutes before the alarm on another overcast morning. Life trapped in the fast lane whether we've volunteered for the ride or not.

Worth the late night?

I dunno. I can make a long list of the things I don't like about the program - this take on Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes - the female Dr. Watson, an Asian American Dr. Watson, balancing that list on the plus side, but I do find myself sitting in front of the screen on Thursday nights every Thursday night. Such is life?

Later. An attempt at a nap without success, some time on the tablet before taking a bus downtown at one in the afternoon to have a raspberry shortbread cookie and coffee in the Rotunda building before meeting the civil engineer and the building engineer at the security desk at two. The building engineer showed us how to reach a fourth floor building window that would be available during the construction period and that I would be able to use to take pictures.

OK, pictures, more pictures from various vantage points on the street of the soon to be under construction area and then a walk to the bus stop thinking I'm tired and this day is done. Not really a lot of activity, not a lot of energy expended, but essentially tired before we started and ready to pack it in. After getting off the bus at the apartment house construction site to take the usual set of photographs.

The city engineer was thinking in terms of a small set of pictures showing progress through the life of the street straightening project and so I'm committed for these coming several weeks. Good. Something to keep up and running around the downtown for at least once a week. A project. Something a little different. He said.

Evening. The rest of the afternoon working on the photographs taken earlier, listening to the news drone on from the living room as I sat in front of the computer and a short session on the guitar. A late afternoon, early evening, in other words, the head at least a little clearer. It seemed at least a little clearer.

A New Tricks I'd seen before at seven, but didn't remember the outcome and so watched it through. Skipped the Midsomer Murders at eight as it started rather too slowly and I lost attention. I may or may not have seen it before, but either way didn't seem to matter. To bed to watch stuff on the tablet for a bit and then conk out early. Been a long day, for some reason. Best it end early, start with a clearer head in the morning.

The photo up top was taken at the San Francisco How Weird Street Faire with a Nikon D4s mounted with a 70-200mm f 2.8 VR II Nikkor lens.
