Here In Oakland

Art & Life

March 25, 2018

Them

Sunday. A decent night's sleep was the thought, awakening at six-twenty on a clear going to be sunny morning. Up and out the door to walk rather than drive to breakfast as car access to Grand would have been cut off for the Oakland Marathon by the time I returned. My normally close to deserted route along Grand was crowded with hundreds of people streaming across the way to what I guessed was this year one of the race starting points as well as the usual finish.

Had the eggs Benedict, country potatoes, fruit cup and coffee for breakfast again and didn't get out to walk back home until nine. The usual pictures to include an ill exposed (and focused) photograph of one of the flowers at the base of the Lakeview School and then a few of the marathon finish line area and of the crowds of people milling about. More than a few people preparing for the race.

Home to quickly post yesterday's entry and then, having done so, starting to feel crappy (where'd that come from?) and so took to the bedroom to lie down briefly before heading out for the marathon pictures. I could hear the announcer over the music being broadcast from the lake, but a brief appearance by the ocular migraine sparkly thing in the closed left eye at that point was all she wrote for shooting the marathon.

Actually slept for twenty minutes and got up feeling better, the body coming together and approaching normal. Still had no desire to go out for pictures, the announcer was still going strong, but blew off any thought for photographs. I'm wondering how I'll feel about the Saint Stupid's Day Parade coming up next weekend? A lot of people I knew in the past show up for it.

Later. Finished the web section for the March For Our Lives photographs. They're just a little more than ho-hum, I'm afraid, but I put them up anyway. I hope this isn't what I have to look forward to for the future.

Boo-hoo-hoo.

OK, me too. There's lots of stuff out there to play around with if push comes to shove. If one passion fades, another sits ready to take its place. Just hope the photography isn't there yet.

Genuinely awful stuff on television today, but it's easier to take when it's playing out of sight in the background while you're working on web pages. How many minutes do they spend on advertising during an average hour? Wasn't there once a federal law to limit it?

Evening. Forgot they had the Stormy Daniels interview they've been hyping now for some time, but stumbled across it just as it started and so watched. Be interesting to see the various reactions to the thing starting tomorrow. Also stumbled across a program about Oscar Zeta Acosta on the PBS World channel and wished I hadn't missed the beginning. I'll see if it's up on their web site.

Did a quick look for Acosta's Autobiography of a Brown Buffalo to see if I'd also bought a copy of The Revolt of the Cockroach People, his second book they'd referenced in the PBS piece. Published in 1989 it's one I would have bought had I run across it.

Odd to see my hardback copy now sells used for fifty dollars on Amazon. Couldn't find either one, so I suspect it's in one of the bedroom or other sundry non-alphabetized book cases. I'll look for it in the daylight tomorrow and think about rearranging all the books in a way that makes sense to integrate with the living room shelves that are arranged alphabetically by author. Silly idea, so many things I'd like to do and I'm able to come up with so little effort to do them.
