Here In Oakland

Art & Life

February 22, 2018

Weekend

Thursday. Lights out and to sleep early enough, awakening at a quarter to six to again dawdle getting up and setting out to breakfast, having decided to skip going by the ATM, we'll use the credit card this morning. Hardly a critical decision. And we need the exercise.

The chicken-apple sausage, eggs over medium, country potatoes, toast, fruit cup and coffee for breakfast. Too much thinking about this, just order whatever it is from the menu. Life is complicated enough, no reason to add to the issue.

You actually struggle with this stuff?

Only at breakfast.

Took an overexposed picture of the pandorea vine on the walk home (has the recent cold effected the buds blooming?) and two more pictures along the sidewalk, two of the homeless people who sleep along Grand in this area, the one pushing her supermarket cart as we approached, another sitting at a table drinking coffee farther along. Just under a half mile walk in the mornings, yet there are at least five or more people I know of who sleep in doorways and sometimes under the highway. Welcome to Oakland.

We'll check the jury duty web site between eleven and noon as directed. We're fated to head for the Broadway ATM, either on the way to jury duty or just to the ATM, maybe take pictures at the apartment house construction sites fronting on Webster and Valdez if jury duty has been canceled. Can't bring a camera into a court room

Later. No jury duty. OK, a bus then to the ATM on Broadway to discover, when I received an updated Mastercard from the bank day before yesterday, that I'd confused the debit card with the old Mastercard and cut the debit card into pieces. So, when I attempted to use the ATM, the ATM told me it didn't recognize the card. Oh.

Into the bank to withdraw the money and to get another debit card ordered, but how had I managed to mix up the cards? I thought I'd been careful, checked more than once in going through the process, but I'd obviously managed to screw it up while thinking I was being careful doing something that wasn't all that difficult. This lapse slowed me down and made me think.

The delay in the bank caused me to miss the return bus by three minutes, but it also allowed me to walk over and shoot pictures at the apartment house construction site and so took a quick tour along Valdez and Webster, returning to the bus stop with two minutes to spare before the next bus appeared.

Evening. Thursdays aren't the best for television, especially during periods and the public stations are raising money, and so to bed early to continue with episodes from a series I've been watching. Listened to the BBC news starting at nine, turned the lights out by nine-thirty and that was it for another day, closer now to the Lunar New Year parade this weekend.
