At lunch today in Oakland

February 11th, 2005

Next Week Fares
Another good lunch. The lady at the top is the manager or the owner of a Peruvian restaurant on Broadway in Oakland (very good food, not enough customers). I wouldn't have had the gumption to ask for a picture, but one of the ladies I was having lunch with asked her for me as we were leaving (Why didn't I do this lunch with the ladies business more often when I was younger? Any of you out there younger? Have lunch more often with attractive men/women. Be nice and they'll be nice. Puts you in a good mood. Makes this life more interesting.) saying I was too shy to ask, but I'd like to take her picture and she said, (what the hell, you've been good customers) “sure”. Not in focus (I'll have to think about that), but nice.

I thanked the lady who set up the opportunity for the photograph and said, in passing, I'd had the idea of renting a small studio space somewhere near by, have business cards printed to give to interesting faces I might find and shoot portraits as I'm able on the weekends. A photo project: if you'll sit for a half an hour, I'll give you a nice print. Now, I've said that before, so it's a real thought, but there's no corresponding “umph!” behind it, no need to run out and check rentals. There's a lot of empty space for lease in Oakland. I'd only need a reasonably large room with water and power to house the backgrounds and the lights. A big window would be nice, but we're on a budget here. And that's about as far as I take it.

This has been a pretty good week: a less aching head, good energy, better attitude. Be interesting to see how this next week fares. Here in Oakland.

The photograph was taken at lunch today in Oakland with a Nikon D2h mounted with a 17-55mm f2.8 Nikkor lens at ISO 1000.
