MRM, acting strange

February 16th, 2002

The Day Will Bring
I've started walking again these last few days, walking to work, walking to breakfast this morning, things of that sort. It is the only way I've found to keep my body in shape. I've lost weight, but very slowly the last few months - the holidays, the need for caloric solace, the usual stuff - and I've had uneven success surviving the various ambushes you run into at the office: a cookie tray (home baked from, if not for, the heart), a jar of soft Swiss centers surrounded by the darkest of chocolate, sandwiches left over from a working lunch put out beside the coffee pots, smirking, nestled in among the packages of potato chips. Take one now, or they'll be gone.

The walking makes the difference, and, although I like walking well enough, I've never liked exercise very much. Running in combat boots in the army sucked. Health clubs suck. Treadmills suck. Walking to work is OK, but with the winter and the dark and the occasional rain I've managed to talk myself out of it. Time to get over that.

The sun is out, it's 8:30 in the morning, let's see what the day will bring.
