Steps Back

Wednesday. To bed by nine, to sleep after ten, awake at close to seven, so we're still getting a good night's rest and having some success in moving our wakeup time to when it's getting light. Overcast, but light. A walk to breakfast, after looking at how the computer had downloaded Windows 10, but discovered, although it had probably done so, it had then downloaded a bunch of Windows 7 updates that squelched the Windows 10 upgrade operation. Or something like that. I suspect this will require more attention.

So we're still adding programs lost with the failed hard drive, there are a bunch and they all require software keys to activate. Most of them I have on hand and the ones I don't have are available from the vendors, but it all takes time, probably through the rest of the day. Still, a warning. No photographs lost, they're all backed up up on their own mirrored external drives, it will take physical damage to lose them, but again, a head's up, this means we'll be making necessary changes.

I must admit this has kept me focused. Frustrating to put it all back together, anyone a bit computer phobic would have run in horror. This Dell workstation is set up differently than their business machines and they don't publish (that I've been able to find) information on the two areas of difference: the RAID software and how it works, as well as the boot config BIOS information. Yes, this is All this is Greek to most people, I'm just babbling, saying it's a pain in the ass for all but the serious techie. I'm not that serious techie.

Have no idea how the rest of the day will go. They're saying rain on the way tomorrow and then a second storm coming right after. We need the rain, best it comes, but it gives us no idea what we'll do with ourself other than put on the rain gear and take a walk with a camera wrapped in a plastic bag for protection.

You don't sound that upset.

True. I need changes around here, something a little different and this is at least different, frustrating or not.

Evening. Problems with the Windows 10 upgrade. It won't. Problems with a firmware update on one of the external hard drive systems that I will have to call the vendor on tomorrow. Two steps forward, one step back. One and a half steps back.

The photo up top was taken while walking to breakfast yesterday along Grand with a Nikon D4 mounted with a 24-120mm f 4.0 VR Nikkor lens.
