Here In Oakland

Art & Life

Under here.

August 5, 2012

End Of The Week
Sunday. To bed before ten: good. We'll leave it at that. Whatever aches and pains there may have been from the exertions yesterday are gone, I've certainly gotten enough sleep (right?) and I'm feeling pretty good, home now after getting up at six-thirty this morning and then off to breakfast at seven.

The morning is free, Art & Soul starts at noon and it will take both time and energy to get enough decent pictures for a section. I managed a section for Nihonmachi yesterday, but only by, um, allowing five or six photographs through the gate that would not have made it if I'd had more time. If I'd made more time. What the hell, there's a section now up and in place.

Later. A nap after breakfast, not much of a nap, but that was all I seemed to need. In finishing the Nihonmachi photographs I take back my statement that five or so got through because I couldn't find any better. I rather like the ones I found once I'd finished, we'll bite our tongue and get on to Art & Soul.

A bus downtown at twelve-thirty, probably too early, but that's my own particular problem: seemingly unable to wait, to come a little later when most of the sensible people choose to arrive. Still, I stayed for a full three hours, walked around for a while at first, had lunch (another strawberry, whipped cream and ice cream crêpe), walked around some more (snap! snap!), sat at a table over a cup of coffee, finished the day with one last go around feeling just fine. Thank you.

I was wondering, at the beginning when I set out, as I was experiencing some of the relatively lightweight double vision stuff - not a lot, but not something you like - how the day might turn out, but it was over in no more than an hour. The world came alive, particularly after that coffee. At least I came alive. You wish you'd felt the same yesterday, but no complaints, all’s well that ends with a reasonably clear head. Maybe we'll spend the evening finishing up Art & Soul, maybe we'll see if we can't get a decent guitar session before the light fades and the brain says stop.

Evening. The Art & Soul photographs have been posted. One or two good ones, the rest not so good. Not good to post photographs that aren't so good, but I'll undoubtedly stew on it for a while longer. I'm often less than thrilled when I've finished a section and sometimes my opinion can change. But enough. Guitar now, it's not all that late, and I have a guitar lesson I'm going to ace when it comes up at the end of the week.

The photo up top was taken at the Nihonmachi Street Fair yesterday in San Francisco with a Nikon D4 mounted with a 70-200mm f 2.8 Nikkor VR II lens.
