Morning After

Sunday. Last night seems to have dribbled away with watching television to finally end with lights out at ten and a decent night's sleep, awakening just after six. Given how light it's been earlier and earlier every morning, “just after six” seems to work well for walking. Being a Sunday, of course, with no parking meters in operation, we skipped the walk and took the car to breakfast.

Nothing on the schedule today, although I would still like to get in a decent walk. How long since I've been to say Whole Foods over on Harrison? Not hard to manage if I come up with something I want or need to buy. Had an overly large breakfast earlier, maybe a salad at Whole Foods for lunch? Babbling are we here, this early morning?

Later. A bath and then a nap, I seem to take naps as often as not anymore when it approaches noon and so maybe not the best indication we got a decent night's sleep.

A walk to the lake with one of the old DX cameras with a 180mm f 2.8 lens attached to give a 270mm equivalent when compared with the same lens mounted on one of the current 35mm full frame cameras. Gets you closer without adding much weight. Haven't used this combination in some time.

Went by the white column pergola and sat for a while. Lots of people about on benches and on blankets on grass under the trees. Nice day, seventy degrees, and so a walk to the bird sanctuary, a walk I haven't taken now in months. A picture of the cormorants nesting up in the island trees, a picture or two at the fenced sanctuary area, again, something I haven't done in some time.

And so?

And so maybe put more effort into photographing birds the next time out. I have a new camera coming that uses the DX level lenses, an impetus to take more pictures with a longer, less bulky, telephoto lens and to make use of DX lenses I already own. Mr. Capa's “get closer” advice is always relevant to use as an excuse. But we'll see. Reality always calls you out on your B.S...

Yes.

Evening. And how did your day go? Well, I stopped writing in the mid-afternoon and I'm filling this in tomorrow morning trying to remember. No real time on the tablet, didn't put together a Latham Square section, must have watched some television. Not a good sign, this not remembering how your evening went the morning after?

The photo up top was taken Sunday at the forming up for the Cherry Blossom Festival Parade in San Francisco with a Nikon D4s mounted with a 70-200mm f 2.8 VR II Nikkor lens.
