To Recall

Wednesday. Not a good night's sleep I'm afraid, spent the night counting hours, turning over from side to side than a body aught. And awake at five-thirty, an hour before the alarm, to get up and walk to breakfast. Felt fine: no complaints, no aches, no pains as I read the papers over a waffle with butter and syrup. Guess there's no way to predict how any given night will go. At least it's clear, after wondering yesterday, that I'm not coming down with a cold.

Are we looking for a comforting pay on our little head?

The mood isn't bad, just describing the way this mid-week morning has started.

Not the way to sell any soap.

Later. An attempt at a nap after posting yesterday's entry, zoning out for a bit, but no sleep. OK, up to take the bus to the ATM on Broadway and then a walk on to pick up that prescription refill and check out what they were doing for the Oakland Earth Day event being held in the City Center. They were setting up tables, not a whole lot of tables, and there was a band getting ready to play.

Thought about getting something at the bagel shop to eat out at a table while watching how it would all come together (for about a minute) before turning around to take the bus to the stop near the apartment house construction site. Not hungry, didn't look like the Earth Day would be interesting enough to find all that many pictures. Rationalization enough to get me on the bus.

Heading out on the bus we passed by the apartment house construction site where they'd been unloading sections of a very large crane of some kind and so off the bus to take pictures of the crane as well as the usual pictures taken from behind the site. Overheard them saying this much larger crane is being put in place to remove the existing crane they've been using now for months, evidently any requirement for its services now done.

Another attempt at a nap without success. Worth doing, just, you know, didn't get to sleep. Not hungry, not interested in going anywhere now that it's after one in the afternoon, although it looks like we're finally getting some sun, the weather people saying it will reach seventy today in Oakland. So we'll see. Not tired, but feeling a bit slow, fairly clear headed, but not interested in putting it to some useful task. Which I suspect is OK for a Wednesday in April.

Later still. Another walk over by the construction site to see how much progress they'd made putting together the new crane before walking on the the 7-11 look-alike for a pint of Häagen-Dazs strawberry ice cream. Why ice cream I don't know.

I wasn't hungry, wasn't particularly thinking of ice cream, but that's what I brought back to the apartment, running across the construction site manager as I was crossing Grand. Yes, the crane was there to remove the installed crane they've been using during construction: sixty-thousand dollars to rent it for two days.

Evening. A Death In Paradise episode at eight and that's it for television this evening. Otherwise it's been lying down jumping between watching this and that on the tablet - Netflix and Amazon - the day chalked up as a decent day (from all I'm able to recall).

The photo up top was taken at the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival Parade with a Nikon D4s mounted with a 70-200mm f 2.8 VR II Nikkor lens.
