Lost

Saturday. The tablet still not working and so lights out early again, to awaken at six-oh-something and so, again, a decent night's rest. Got up, got ready to head out to breakfast to find the papers hadn't been delivered by six-thirty and so thought back to Sunday when the new paper delivery guy had said something about delivery now being between seven and seven-thirty. On weekends? On Saturdays?

OK, lied down on the bed for another fifteen minutes and checked for the papers again at six forty-five and there they were. Off to walk to breakfast on a clear, didn't seem wood smoky morning, to have the Eggs Benedict, country potatoes, fruit cup and coffee for breakfast. Eggs Benedict will usually work, even if I can't think of anything else that appeals.

The walk home uneventful, the sky clear, the sun bright and what seems to be a decent Saturday ahead. I mean it's a Saturday, after all. Maybe walk by or even through the farmers market later if nothing more adventuresome appears. My, my.

Later. Doesn't look as if there's as much smoke in the air as there was yesterday, but in watching the fire reports on the news it's clearly still active, houses burning and fire lines being breached. Still a bit surrealistic seeing this going on in an area where I lived for over a decade, know reasonably well, at least back when. I was there in the 1981 fire, watched it burn to the edge of one of our vineyards, but it didn't create near the damage of this one has done.

I did remember how to reset the iPad and that seems to have fixed the not playing of movies problem. Half recalled what I'd done before and fumbled holding the start button down for a couple of minutes to make it happen. So good. You learn and then you have to learn all over again.

A walk to the burger drive-in to pick up a turkey sandwich to return and watch the Yankees and Houston game, with some peeks at the series of episodes of Law & Order that run on Fridays, many I haven't seen before. More wildfire news, the thing is still going, more houses gone, the wind behaving better, one or two of the better known wineries coming close to succumbing, but avoiding the fire.

The online pollution web site says the particulate levels are normal, in the forties, although it had been projecting something way up in the 180's red zone, the wind direction evidently having changed for the better. Still haven't gone outside other than for that sandwich.

Evening. Listened to some of the Dodgers-Cubs 1st game playoff and finished to movies I've been piddling along with on the tablet. Nothing other to watch on television, perhaps because the only taste I have remaining is in my mouth.

Now, now.

We've stopped watching BBC period pieces, but have a heightened appreciation for ice cream and candy coated licorice. Some things are gained, some things, I guess, are lost.

The photo up top was taken at the Oakland Pride Festival with a Nikon D5 mounted with a 70-200mm f 2.8 VR II Nikkor lens.
