Here In Oakland

Art & Life

Life

Sunday. Lights out before ten to then awaken with the alarm. Best to continue setting the alarm. Up to drive to breakfast on a clear, what they're saying will be another warm day, arriving to find the dining area dark, but the door unlocked and so turned on the lights and settled down at the table. Another Sunday, here in Oakland.

Was put off by the idea of eating anything other than the French toast with sliced bananas and strawberries, fruit cup and coffee for breakfast. Not sure whether the body sends messages demanding the foods that it likes, or foods that it needs, but I'm assuming French toast with fruit is closer to the needs side of the issue. But who knows what they put into their French toast anymore and where it falls on the spectrum?

Finished the papers by just after nine and so out the door to take but one picture (other than the gas station photograph) and drive straight home under a bright sun. No desire to go by the supermarket, we'll make due later with what we have in the kitchen.

Later. Watched The Players tournament until it completed at three, breaking in the middle of it to take a bath in the early afternoon. Again, these tournaments seem to keep me watching as it has an interesting tension in the ups and downs of the play. One minute hot with a drive down the middle of the fairway, the next disaster with a plop into the water. Haven't had any desire to watch them in the past.

The sinus-upper palate has been acting up since I awoke this morning. I keep saying the pain meds they've prescribed don't really work and so, starting yesterday, I took half the dose I've routinely been taking first thing in the mornings. I'm now thinking a bad move.

Anyway, crappy sinuses or not, a walk over to the lake, this time having checked the temperature before heading out in a long sleeved shirt. Warm enough to have done so in just the t-shirt. Lots of people about, the temperature seventy degrees, a large group dancing in front of the white column pergola. Didn't take more than a few pictures before heading right back home though twenty minutes later, the sinus-palate again making the difference.

Took a larger dose of the pain meds when I got home and, indeed, things seemed better after an hour. Next time we'll take the meds before we go shoot pictures. Or maybe just after we get up and out of bed as in the past. Or maybe we'll continue with this stop taking them altogether for a while longer to be sure. Or maybe. We're good at these or maybes.

Evening. Skipped the Elementary episode that started at six and watched the first thirty minutes of the Norwegian Varg Veum – Writing on the Wall instead. Bad choice, the character is an idiot, and so bailed after thirty minutes. Watched the Swedish Blue Eyes – The Earthquake episode that followed at eight with better comprehension, at least it made sense, we'll check it out again next week.

To bed by nine, with lights out by nine-thirty, the sinus-palate thing still not quite where I'd like it. Such is life.

The photo up top was taken at the 2018 San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade with a Nikon D5 mounted with a 70-200mm f 2.8 VR II Nikkor lens.
