Here In Oakland

Art & Life

March 29, 2013

A Friday Night
Friday. A fairly heavy fog out there when I finally awoke half an hour after I'd turned off the alarm, but it's burned off quickly and the day looks good. Off to breakfast and back in the usual routine, my guitar lesson coming up in less than an hour: time to get ready. The attitude good. Let's see how it survives the lesson.

Later. OK. First, the weather is indeed nice, sunny with the temperature in the mid seventies, just the kind of day to be going to a guitar lesson or any other kind of lesson. I'd say. We'll do one more week getting the finger picking exercise in shape, but we've made progress. Same with Wild Horses, we'll continue to get it down and add the last part of the song for next week. I'm close enough to the finish I'm looking forward to pushing this week to see how it will sound.

Otherwise a picture or two, as I was waiting out on the patio for the lesson to start, that poor tree obviously dead if not dying. Wonder what it was/is that did the damage? Nothing I can see in the way of physical wounds or pests or anything obvious. Evil beetles of the kind they're always talking about?

Home then to take a walk over to the lake to try out a long lens with a 2x tele-extender. I've had both for some time, but I've never mated these particular two together. The 1.4x extender once or twice, yes, but I'm not much of a bird photographer and I don't like to go out with a really exotic looking camera over my shoulder without plenty of people around. More my problem than anything to do with reality, at least in this end of Oakland. Only one that was interesting, next time maybe I'll bring a monopod for better support, up the ante.

Later still. More puttering, a walk to the 7-11 look-alike for an ice cream cone (lunch), some time on the guitar while listening to the news (as usual in the background). The day is indeed nice, the temperature close to eighty, we'll see how the weekend turns out. (They're saying not nearly as nice.)

Evening. So I watched one of the Italian police procedurals at six I keep saying I won't watch (and usually don't), so we're obviously both a fake and a flake. Such is life one learns, here in the PropLand. We've come to live with it.

More time on the guitar, not enough yet, but the evening is young. Maybe a Netflix movie, maybe not, maybe to bed earlier than I was planning on a Friday night.

The photo up top was taken at the Oakland Running Festival with a Nikon D4 mounted with a 70-200mm f 2.8 VR II Nikkor lens.
