San Francisco Cherry Blossom Parade

June 21st, 2006

Good Wednesday
Tuesday. Two days in San Francisco at an introductory SQL class. What might SQL be? Well, after two days, I can assure you I am now a SQL expert and I advise that we don't discuss this any further lest we drift into a room with a writer and no readers. Let me say, however, that tomorrow, after attending this class, is now my Monday and Thursday is now my Tuesday and that Thursdays are ever so much better Tuesdays than Tuesdays could ever be. Or am I drifting? Too much excitement, I suspect, for a Tuesday.

Wednesday. I've apparently sold my old nbbc.com domain name. I've not had people approach me to buy any of my domain names until three months ago when a brewery pub contacted me, then a Baptist church in Texas, both of whom did not reply when I suggested they make an offer. This third one was succinct and professional. A contact: “was I interested in selling?” My reply, “I might. Please make an offer.” They made an immediate offer. After discussing the situation with one of the lawyers at my company, a five figure counter offer. Another offer that clearly indicated they were for real. Another counter offer and my acceptance when they agreed to an amount that pretty much covers everything I've ever spent on buying and maintaining domains since I started on the web ten years ago.

And who are they? Not sure, except I'll find out one day when the web page appears. A big company? Probably, but who knows? The price was fair from my standpoint and if the reality was I could have sold it for untold millions because the buyer was representing the National Billionaire Boys Club who wanted a web site come hell or high water, well that's the way the ball bounces. Would I accept a similar amount for, say, artandlife? No. Apersonalsite? I doubt it. Either way, no regrets, this has been a good Wednesday, here in Oakland.
