San Francisco Gay Pride Parade

February 19th, 2004

May Be Late
This is really Friday and not Thursday, right? We discussed this at the office. "It feels like Friday!!!" thinking maybe we'd experienced a rent in time sometime after the first of the year and the five day work week had suddenly been extended to six, a secret day slipped in somewhere when we weren't watching. It could happen. I, for one, might not have noticed.

Gays are marrying by the dozen in San Francisco this week and it seems to have hit the news. I've lived here too long to have any perspective on how this will play out in the rest of the country, but it seems so obviously an equal rights issue very similar to the civil rights movement of the sixties. "If you're black, get back. If you're gay, go away." I wonder if any of the ladies on my gay pride artandlife page have availed themselves of these services?

Pamie has an interesting entry today mentioning someone from Minnesota who contacted a florist near San Francisco City Hall asking them to deliver flowers to a couple, any couple standing in line, with a card that said: "With love, from Minneapolis, Minnesota.". Nice. Minnesota. My goodness. Maybe Minnesota isn't totally barbarian territory, maybe there are people there of good will. Could be. Anyway, I mentioned I have no perspective on the issue having lived here these thirty years, my brief thought a majority of the nation might flash to the fact this was an equal rights issue, just an hallucination, no doubt, but, you know, they could. They might.

Enough of politics. Tomorrow should be an interesting day at the office. We're meeting for alcohol and possible commiseration after work. I may be late.
