Something a Little Different Eve Well, the Sole Proprietor isn't sure why he chose these pictures either. He has some Christmas stuff, pictures with gaudy lights, plastic Santas and reindeer on roofs, but somehow he was going through his negatives and these popped out. A little more intelligence in their selection might have dictated a tree or a church spire or even that one good picture he got of God at that Easter thing, but this is Christmas, the birth, the rebirth of the new year and Easter is a different trip altogether, so maybe laughter and dancing are more appropriate. Laughter and dancing. Why not? There's a "Merry" somewhere in Christmas, after all.
He's been thinking about adding a side bar for some time.
The Sole Proprietor is going to get his $10 lunches in Oakland
So, here he sits listening to KFOG, the radio station for old hippies.
Back when he listened to these same people on the old KSAN it was his world's
Another day. He got up early and did his food shopping at the local Lucky's. No real crowds. Something for breakfast and dinner tomorrow that's easy but nice. One or two items, cheese mostly, that he never eats during the year but brings back recollections of Christmases past so he'll put them on the table. Go through some of the old records and play things he hasn't played for a while. He has a lot of old rock and roll from the sixties and seventies, maybe 800 albums from that time. But he has other music as well, music from even younger days. He used to listen to a lot of opera and operetta. He can listen to Jeanette McDonald and Nelson Eddy without cringing (Yes, he knows. Never admit to such terrible things, even under duress, but this is Christmas Eve and its hard to lie.). He likes the blues. He has a bunch of show music he's not able to listen to any more, but there's some current stuff happening, maybe he can find something there. He wonders, though. His father never played music that the Sole Proprietor can remember, although he had a number of 78's from the big band period and liked Benny Goodman a lot. Might that be the Sole Proprietor's fate? A lot of old records that are never played? |
