Under Construction

Sistahs Steppin' In Pride parade, Oakland

December 6th, 2006

Easier Proposition
Wednesday. The rest of our IT division was hit today, over a hundred of us given our walking papers. A lot of freaked out people, of course; freaked out, but now certain what the future holds: when they'll be leaving and what the “package” offered by the company will look like when their date arrives. My own date is the middle of next year. I'd rather it have been April, but I have no complaints and I've had a great deal more luck in this matter than I had any right to expect. I have friends, however, who will go through one hell of a period before they know again they can continue to make their mortgage and pay their kid's tuition. I don't envy them.

Well, you've been talking about this being imminent for a very long time.

I'm lucky. The company could and should have done this years ago. Their mistake makes my own slide into darkness an easier proposition.

The photograph was taken at the Sistahs Steppin' in Pride parade in Oakland with a Nikon D2X mounted with a 17-55mm f 2.8 Nikkor lens at 1/640th, f 2.8, ISO 100.
