Here In Oakland

Art & Life

August 3, 2013

And Probably More
Saturday. To bed again by ten, up well after the alarm at six-thirty, off to breakfast and back on an overcast and quite cool morning. A waffle with mixed fruit for breakfast. The day has started, not like a rocket, but reasonably well and I'm sure I'll be looking forward to heading downtown, checking out Latham Square and then attending the Art & Soul Festival (right after a nap).

Later. Maybe just say “oof!” and leave it at that. A bus, probably much too early, downtown to take a picture or two at Latham Square, to check out what they'd done after I'd left yesterday and then went on to attend Art & Soul for two hours. People, yes, but not nearly as many as in past years, no blues stage this time at 12th at Broadway and seemingly without the ambition required to double down and come up with pictures of the the required quality.

I did find a few, yes, but after two hours I was done for the day, feeling not quite up to being out (the sinuses again taking part in an odd light headed effect on the inner ear and the ability to balance) so I returned and figured I'll go again tomorrow, but later, around three, and see if I can't make up for today's photographs.

I believe I attended the Nehonmachi Festival in Japantown last year and then attended Art & Soul after when I got back to Oakland at around three or four in the afternoon, which probably led to finding more people and better pictures. Not up for doing it today, didn't even think of doing it, Nehonmachi also running this weekend. Odd, as I like Nehonmachi.

But, what the hell, life will not end. We'll look at what pictures we can put together for a Latham Square section and start one for Art & Soul and, come hell or high water tomorrow and fill in with enough to finish at least one section.

And you'll feel the same when tomorrow arrives?

We can always think up excuses overnight, if necessary, and have them available should the sun come up if it doesn't bring up me along with it.

Evening. A long but comfortable afternoon and evening working with the pictures, the HereInOakland photographs are done (I'm thinking weird looking colors with some, may have to go back and see if I can fix them) and oddly enough, I do seem to have gotten a section together of Art & Soul photographs. Twenty-one, but just barely. If I'm not overly picky. So tomorrow, more pictures. And guitar. And probably more complaining.

The photo up top was taken at Latham Square in downtown Oakland with a Nikon D4 mounted with a 24-120mm f/4.0 VR Nikkor lens.
