While I Take A Nap
Tonight, I don't write. Nothing structured, nothing planned, just kick back, listen to my news programs ramble on in the background and let the week fizzle itself out. Tomorrow there's a blues festival in Jack London Square, so maybe I'll wander over and see what I can see, bring the cameras, look through the big Barnes and Noble bookstore. I ordered three books today from Amazon.com, a Quickstart guide on HTML 4.0, which I need to learn, and two books by a friend of a friend named Jon Jackson, who writes books with a detective hero named Mulheisen, that I haven't kept up with since I read his first two novels in the late 70's and then a more recent one two years ago. We corresponded briefly and I sent him a sales brochure I had left over from my military days on multi-barreled shotguns that he incorporated into a small scene in his second book, something about the police sifting through the library of a serial killer. I was tickled.

I still wonder why I don't read anymore. It's not a good sign when you don't even follow authors you've actually corresponded with, so when the urge struck today I ordered Man With An Axe and Deadman, which is apparently out of print. I did read a more recent book by Jackson, another Mulheisen called Dead Folks and it was fun to see how his writing had changed, how much more control he has over his characters and situations (The titles, maybe just a little more work on the titles.). I started reading Hunter Thompson's The Rum Diary again after quitting in the middle of it a month back and it's OK, but nibbling at Thompson and the occasional techie text does not a reader make. I used like this stuff. Now it puts me to sleep. Let's see what Mulheisen has been up to.

Saturday morning after breakfast and the sun is breaking through so I think I actually will go to Jack London Square and see what it is they're calling a "Blues Festival". They had one in Berkeley last year that I shot in the early afternoon with all the attendant problems of bright sun and too much contrast. This time I'll wander over after 3:00 and see if I can correct that, see if there isn't enough going on to make a couple of decent pictures. Meanwhile I'll pull some film out of the refrigerator and let it defrost while I take a nap. Sounds wonderful.

Later, futzing around. Checked Lucy's Garden Journals Web Ring and discovered she's up to three. Found one written by a cat that made me feel very humble. Garden journals. I'm not doing any god damned garden journals, but I guess I'm going to end up reading one written by a not quite three year old cat named Gracie. I'm too old for this. I am. Really.

The banner photograph was taken by Rien Post, but not, I assume, in Arizona. Don Juan meets Georgia O'Keefe. Why not?
