Laureen of the Deep

The Next Morning
I got a call from Sam early in the afternoon asking if I could scan four slides he had of Laureen diving while they were on vacation last week on Grand Cayman Island. Meet for a beer at PCB around four, take off early from work. Good idea, I don't get over to PCB very often and I hadn't seen the both of them together since Thanksgiving.

I included two of the four slides taken by the dive instructor as Grand Camyman Islands, last week. today's photographs. It brings back memories of my own diving when I was in college. I didn't do any underwater photography then and the only regular out of water stuff I did was with a medium format twin lens reflex I'd purchased in high school, although I thought about it and checked underwater camera housing prices (ugh! and ouch!). Unlikely I'd ever do it again, taking one of my Nikons down to a place where its survival depended on my remembering to tighten some wing nut when I can't remember to rewind the film before I open up the camera to reload, and, oh yeah, there's a thingy you have to tighten to connect the air regulator to the tank if you want to breathe while you're under water and there's probably other stuff they've added in the last three decades with thingies of their own. Still, nice photograph, warm clear water. And it's in focus.

PCB, as you might guess, is a brewery pub and although I got back home before 8:00 last night, I was in no condition to write an entry so I put it off til this (the next) morning.

The photographs were taken in the Grand Cayman Islands last week by a dive shop instructor who's name I'm not able to furnish (in case you'd like to go down there and have some photographs taken of yourself). Sam and Laureen mention it was absolutely hotter than hell with humidity to match, even with a place on the water.
